CALL FOR ABSTRACTS: DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION

12:00 MIDDAY ON FRIDAY 26TH APRIL 2019

This year’s conference recognises and responds to the changing needs of today’s students in higher education and encourages discourse in how to engage them in their studies.

Areas of expertise we are particularly interested in include:

  • Understanding the demographics, changing behaviours and needs of students
  • Innovative teaching techniques to enhance student engagement
  • Ways to make sessions interesting and intellectually stimulating (in class and online)
  • How to use technology to engage students
  • Using learner analytics to understand our students

We invite all Business School staff to submit abstracts and participate in the conference.

Contributions to the conference should be in the form of:

  • A traditional presentation (25 minutes plus 10 minutes for questions)
  • A seminar (eg a short presentation followed by a facilitated discussion)
  • Other (eg workshop or experiential session)
  • 7 minute fast paced presentations to present vibrant new ideas

Most sessions will be 35 minutes long, but this year we also invite shorter 7 minute presentations which can be put together with other contributors to form one session.

In your submission you should indicate which of the following themes you will be addressing:

  • Today’s Student: understanding and engaging with today’s students
  • Teaching Techniques: ways to make learning and teaching interesting and intellectually stimulating
  • Use of Technology: inside the classroom and online

We encourage all Business School staff to contribute to the conference, regardless of whether you are an experienced conference presenter or new to this activity.  What is important is that you can demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of your topic
  • Passion and enthusiasm for learning and teaching
  • An innovative and scholarly approach
  • Something that the audience can take away and practice
  • How staff can enhance student engagement
